Intro
Swinton Technology supplied a suite of flow computer metering systems for the Douglas production platform operated by ENI in Liverpool Bay, UK.
ENI required a metering system upgrade to become compliant with national government requirements, notably in relation to Fuel Gas metering.
Obsolete Daniel µ5000 flow computers over three separate metering panels at the Douglas production platform were replaced with upgrade hardware and software to provide a new, high performance metering control system featuring real-time condition based monitoring.
Overview

Swinton Technology was briefed with replacing an obsolete metering computer system consisting of 20 oil and gas streams across three separate metering panels.
Tasked to provide a metering solution whereby off gas and export gas compressor usage were not included within the reported fuel gas volumes, Swinton were required to complete the migration project to a tight deadline.
The project saw Swinton successfully install and commission a bespoke metering system for the offshore platform oil, condensate and gas allocation streams.
Products used

Swinton Technology supplied 20 new FloBoss S600+ flow computers, comprising four liquid turbine condensate streams, 13 gas orifice streams, one gas turbine stream and two gas USM streams. The project management and associated peripheral devices were housed in a new three bay metering panel.
The upgrade installation also saw a new duty/standby TruST metering supervisory computer provided with a single existing MicroMotion 3500 net oil flow computer also housed in the new panel and interfaced to the new TruST system.
Following the initial project installation, Swinton Technology supplied an additional two new S600+ flow computers to handle metering of fuel gas streams that feed the platform turbine generators which were monitored by clamp-on ultrasonic meters.
Outcomes
By upgrading to the new flow metering system, ENI removed their exposure to risk from product obsolescence.
The upgrade hardware and software has provided ENI with enhanced supervisory functions through the new TruST system, including station valve control functionality which allowed the previous PLC to be removed from the system architecture.
Onsite disruption during the upgrade was minimised by our engineers who designed the panel to facilitate the re-use of existing field cabling and undertook rigorous pre-shipment integration testing with the existing DCS system.
Fast track delivery was achieved in line with the customers’ expectations with the new bespoke metering system was shipped on schedule capable of delivering the optimum performance required whilst removing their exposure to risk from product obsolescence.
“From quotation through to the engineering design, the timely delivery of materials and documentation, plus the availability of technical support provided by Swinton Technology has been very good in all aspects of the project.”
