Following the cancellation of this year's GNR, ST Project Engineer Adam Simpson decided to run a marathon distance between the Yorkshire coast and Malton on the weekend the GNR should have been held. Adam is keen to make a difference and raise funds for Young Epilepsy following his daughter's diagnosis as a child with epilepsy. Young Epilepsy is the national charity exclusively supporting the 112,000 children and young people under 25, with epilepsy.
When Swinton Technology’s Sports and Social club became aware of Adam’s plan to run a Marathon, they were keen to support Adam, in both the run itself but also a post-race celebration to raise more money for his daughter’s charity. Back in 2019 Danny Hall, a popular member of the ST team, left Swinton Technology and the Oil and Gas Industry all together to help run his wife’s family’s Wolds Way Lavender Farm. When the Sports and Social club learnt that Adam’s charity colour is lavender it seemed fitting to tie the Swinton Technology family day in with a visit to the Lavender Farm. Not only were Wolds Way happy to host ST guests in the morning, prior to Adam passing by to enter the last few miles of his run; Danny Hall (on behalf of Wolds Way) kindly offered to donate the admission fees from the ST team who visit the Lavender farm straight to the charity.
The finishing line will be at the local rugby club where a BBQ will take place to celebrate Adam and Joe’s great achievement. At a time of global crisis and sadness, to have an opportunity to support people who are doing something incredible for a great cause is certainly welcome to Swinton Technology and the local community.
A bit of positivity goes a long way, 26.2 miles to be exact.
