Reynolds Training Services ltd
In partnership with Honeywell
Two years ago, Swinton Technology entered a joint venture with Honeywell Modular Systems to provide new controls systems for our client. Part of this venture was to create a system that the client workforce could be trained on at the Reynolds Training Facility near Grimsby, UK.
The training system already existed and used Delta V as a SCADA package, which was to be retained for another training package. The tank farm consists of 3 x small tanks and offers the ability to create a very flexible set of routing options to create every scenario within the sites.

Honeywell provided the SCADA package (Experion) along with ENTIS Tank Gauging, CIU888 and instrumentation package, the ControlEdge PLC, the ControlEdgeHC900, and the Fusion4 MSCL/batch Loader. Swinton Technology provided the engineering, design, and configuration services to meet the expectations of the project, with the configuration and testing taking place at Swinton Technology’s office in Malton.

As mentioned above, the tank farm only consists of 3 x small tanks, but a staggering 76 different routing combinations were created to emulate every possible outcome of the tanks from across all sites, meaning road, rail, ships, tank, and external pipeline systems could be accounted for.

At the site, there will be ongoing support from Swinton Technology to align the system to any new configurations created, thereby ensuring that all future enhancements may also be catered for on the training system.
“The process plant at Grimsby is a unique industry scale facility that enables students to learn about process manufacturing without any of the inherent dangers of working with chemicals, and the enhanced capability is a really exciting prospect.”
